Alata Soap (African Black Soap)
Our authentically crafted alata soap has only three ingredients: palm kernel oil, cocoa pod ash, and water. Palm kernels (top left) are separated and crushed to release the oil, which is then mixed with ashen cocoa pods and water (top right) and then boiled. This mixture is then left to sit (bottom left) for some time before being cooked again to create the final product (bottom right).

The name "alata soap" comes from the local Ghanaian name for the people of Nigeria, where the soap was originally created. The name literally means "the pepper seller's soap." Over time, this recipe has been spread across the country and even altered depending on the region, and has become the African black soap that we know today.
